CHR Films was thought of on a blistering Mumbai afternoon over plates of delicious Kheema Pav and soothing Irani Chai at a hole-in-the-wall joint in Bandra, Mumbai. While discussing films and stories, Errol and Aditya decided to turn their hobby/passion for Films into a career on a whim. To test ride this fantasy they decided to make a film – Snatch & Grab, for the Frames Film Festival with a wager if the film won then they would take up filmmaking as a full-time career and if not then they would figure things out. Not being able to make it for the day of the results because of some random project work in college, they were beyond surprised to get a call saying their film had won! The festival coordinator was kind enough to hold the phone out for them to hear the rapturous applause of the audience present in the hall. It was done! Fate was sealed! Filmmakers are what they would be.
Post college, another story, representing the heart, friendship and brotherhood of Mumbai gripped them. Being broke, just passed out from college boys, they asked around in their friends’ group for someone to fund their film. Enter Meherzan, who was generous enough to produce the short which was an official selection at the MAMI film festival. Not being satisfied by being just an ‘official selection’, they gave it another shot the following year with their film ‘Kaarwaa” which ended up winning the coveted Best Film, Critic Choice award and followed up with Khuli Khidki which was an official selection for the Wassup Film Festival and received special mentions from judges Anurag Basu and Vikramaditya Motwane.
In the following years Adi, Errol and Meherzan focused on gaining more experience by working on Films and Ads across various departments to understand the workings of the industry and learn from the best in the business. In 2016, after plying their trade across production houses, the three decided to register CHR Films and get into mainstream advertising as producers and directors. Since then they have worked with brands like Reliance, Godrej, Lux, and Cleartrip amongst others whilst bagging a few awards for their films along the way.
